THE ALCAZERES

Los Alcázares is a name of Arabic origin, meaning palace and refers to the luxury holiday homes that were once built by the Arabs in this seaside resort on the Mar Menor .

In the 19th century, Los Alcázares became a popular holiday destination for Spaniards. Wooden bathhouses with long decks extending into the sea date from this period. A bathhouse from this period can still be seen in the hotel Balneario La Encarnación .

The coastline of Los Alcázares is seven kilometres long and has seven beaches. Many sports are practiced on the beach and in the water. Not only on the beach, but also in the wellness centre Punta Calera you can relax wonderfully.

Beaches | The town has miles of sandy beaches on the Mar Menor , a saltwater lagoon with calm, shallow waters that are ideal for families and water sports. Some popular beaches include 1. Playa de Los Narejos (perfect for sunbathing and water sports); 2. Playa de Carrión (quiet beach with a nice promenade and views of the lagoon).

Water sports | The Mar Menor is a hotspot for water sports enthusiasts due to its warm and shallow waters. Activities include windsurfing and kitesurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding, sailing and jet skiing.

The Boulevard ( Paseo Marítimo ) | The long promenade along the coast offers beautiful views, cozy cafes, restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere for an evening stroll.

Roman and Moorish History | Los Alcázares has a rich history dating back to Roman and Moorish times. Visit 1. Museo Aeronáutico Municipal   ( small but interesting aviation museum about the history of local aviation); 2. T orre del Rame ( old Arab watchtower that was part of the defense system against pirates).

Local Markets | Every Tuesday and Saturday you can visit the weekly market, where you can find local produce, fresh vegetables, craft goods and clothing.

Fiestas and Events | Los Alcázares is known for its lively fiestas and events, such as 1. Semana Internacional de la Huerta y el Mar ( cultural festival with music, dance and local food) (August); 2. Carnival of Los Alcázares ( Colourful parades and festivities in February/March).



MURCIA

Murcia, the capital of the region of the same name in Spain, is a vibrant city with a rich history, impressive architecture and a vibrant cultural life. Whether you are interested in historical monuments, gastronomy or relaxing in nature, Murcia has something for everyone.
